The MMSL Block Association Celebrates the Stuyvesant Heights Oral History Project

Wednesday evening, August 10th, the Macon/MacDonough/Stuyvesant/Lewis Block Association celebrated the Stuyvesant Heights Oral History Project with a screening of the first 5 oral histories at the Akwaaba Mansion. The community really turned out in support of the Project. Also in attendance were many of those interviewed as well as the photograher, Deana Lawson, sound engineer, Chioke I’Anson and web designer, Emily Mode. Marty Markowitz’s office issued a Proclamation read by the Block Association President, Evelyn Collier and presented to Dr. Alvin Lovell in honor of his mother, 107 year old Mrs, Edith Lovell who gave a very compelling account of her life and times in Bedford Stuyvesant. Peaches Restaurant provided the hors d’oeuvres and wine was furnished by Olivino’s.
